The girls are enjoying their weekly art lessons at another homeschool family's home. Today they made watercolor birds. Betsie always gets to participate even though she is not officially in the class. She thinks she is though! Here are some pictures from today's lesson.

Rachel's finished eagle...I think she did great!
Another great painting, this one by Mary Evelyn

Jen, paintings are GREAT! Can I ask, did they draw them with pencil first and then use watercolor? I would like to try this with my girls, but wanted to ask about the steps they took. :)I wish we had someone around here that would work with young ones like that! How many kids are in the class that your girls take? Is it just your family?
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Candace,
Yes, they drew the pictures with pencil first. They were studying John Audobon today so the focus was birds and watercolor. The teacher had MANY pictures of birds for them to look at and sort of copy from (just to help them along). I don't know why they both chose eagles.
After they drew the pictures, they started with light colors first (yellows and blues) then added the darker colored paints.
Most of the time we are the only ones in this class, but today there was one other child. The teacher's two girls often participate as well. It's a nice intimate setting and we all love it!
I know you have been studying birds. I bet your girls would enjoy drawing some and then painting them. :)
