What does this mean in the internet world?

I see it on facebook and blogs and all over the place and I am just clueless. Looks like less than 3 to me, but then I guess I am not as cool as I thought! LOL! (I do know what LOL means at least.)
Whew!! Thanks for asking and getting an answer for that one. I've wondered about it myself. I have always read it as "less than 3." Or "sitting down," cuz it looks kind of like a rear end to me. LOL!
